Removal of Dental Appliances

Recent advancements in dental technology have greatly increased the accuracy of the fit of removable dentures. Properly-fitted dentures have strong “retention,” meaning they stay in place well against the underlying tissue and don’t easily come out. With construction precisely matching the underlying tissue topography, these modern dentures take advantage of suction and surface tension forces for better retention. As poor-fitting dentures can lead to a variety of adverse effects – such as mouth pain, infection, upset stomach, and bone loss in the jaws – improved dentures are boons to patients. They do, however, have an important drawback: these well-fitted dentures are difficult to remove. This presents a number of problems for denture wearers.

DIFFICULTY GRASPING AND REMOVING DENTURES DUE TO ILLNESS, INJURY, OR AGE.

Pulling dentures out requires sufficient finger strength and dexterity, which many denture wearers lack. Of concern are the effects of aging and age-related illnesses, such as loss of muscle strength and arthritis, as the prevalence of tooth loss leading to dentures is higher in older age groups.

EXPENSIVE DENTURES BECOME DAMAGED IF NOT REMOVED PROPERLY OR CAUTIOUSLY.

Dentures can easily slip or be fumbled while being pulled off the jaws and out of the mouth, and if the appliances fall on a hard bathroom sink, counter, or floor, damage necessitating an expensive replacement is likely. The difficulty of removal and the suddenness of the release of suction of dentures make these kinds of drops more likely.

REMOVING DENTURES WITH FINGERS OR OTHER OBJECTS CAN SCRAPE GUM TISSUE.

Denture wearers will often use their fingernails or other hard objects to awkwardly pry off their dentures, which can easily slip or lose grip and cause painful abrasive tissue damage or .even damage to the oral device which results in costing the wearer out of pocket expenses in order to fix.

DENTURES NEED TO BE REMOVED REGULARLY, WHICH PATIENTS WON’T DO IF DIFFICULT.

The prescribed oral care regiment for most denture wearers is to remove their dentures every night, as this allows proper cleaning of both the appliance and the mouth. Failure to do this increases the likelihood of conditions related to inflammation and infection, such as denture stomatitis and candidiasis, which are painful and damaging to health.

NEED A GRIPPING SOLUTION?

An ideal solution to these problems would be a simple, inexpensive mechanism whereby removable dentures of different types could be extracted from the mouth easily and painlessly, even by wearers with poor finger strength and coordination. Such a solution would give tens of millions of denture wearers, especially elderly wearers, the means to preserve their ongoing oral health and comfort and provide dentists and prosthodontists greater assurance that their patients will be able to comply with the regular denture removal component of their home care requirements.

WHAT MAKES US SO GRIPPING?

Millions of Americans have experienced tooth loss due to factors such as injury or age, and most will get prosthodontic dentures to improve their ability to chew and enhance cosmetic appearance. Recent advancements in denture technology have provided these patients with dentures that fit very precisely in their mouths, which is important for comfort and oral health. These advanced dentures present a key drawback, however, in that they are difficult to remove. Removal of dentures on a regular basis is essential for proper oral health. DentiGrip is a universal handheld device for the safe and easy removal of oral appliances of all types, including complete and partial dentures. The device allows patients, even those with weak or uncoordinated hands, the ability to remove tight fitting dentures with control and ease. This capability provides denture wearers with convenience, greater comfort, reduced chances of injury, and reduced chances of damaging expensive prosthodontics due to difficult removal, while helping ensure continued oral health through compliance with recommended denture removal schedules.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

DentiGrip can be used for the safe and easy removal of any oral appliance, including cosmetic, athletic and therapeutic appliances. However, the primary market for DentiGrip is wearers of prosthodontic dentures, including full and partial dentures, usually in the 50+ age group in the United States. These are customers who value health and convenience, and who are likely to experience difficulty with denture removal due to injury or age-related weakness in the hands. There are a conservatively estimated 13 million Americans in this demographic, and the number will continue to grow as the following generations transitions into old age and become more likely to experience tooth loss.

WHY YOU SHOULD GET A GRIP!

There are no comparable instruments to DentiGrip currently available for home use, and none that will solve the problems associated with the difficult removal, the risk of damage to your gums or the device, and protection from bacteria and illness from using your fingers, like the DentiGrip.

DentiGrip can be used for the safe and easy removal of any oral appliance, including cosmetic, athletic and therapeutic appliances.
